The Kelme jersey was very bold and distinctive in the professional peloton, keeping it's in-house style of the white, green and blue stripes for many years.
Manufacturer: Moa Nalini
Associated Bike Brand: Biciclette GIOS
For the 2000 season, the Kelme-Costa Blanca-Eurosport team were given a selection wildcard by the Tour organisation.
The team was well known for it's performances in the high mountains and Fernando Escartín was a certainty for a top 10 place – which he duely delivered. But the team surpassed all expectations by winning the team classification, Santiago Botero won the king of the mountains jersey as well as a stage and Javier Otxoa also took a stage, holding off a charging Lance Armstrong to the mountain top finish at Hautacam.
Otxoa's brother was tragically killed in an accident in 2001 with Javier also left very badly injured. He valiantly trained very hard to take part in the 2004 Athens Paralympics and went onto win the CP3 road race.
The actal team jersey was very distinctive, and kept it's in-house style of the white, green and blue stripes for many years throughout it's existence in the professional peloton. It's interesting to note that on the back of the jersey there is a reference to the team's 21st anniversary in 2000.
