When I first started riding, the production of cycling clothing was a distinctly European affair. The likes of Biemme, Castelli, Santini and Nalini ruled the production of pro team clothing, which along with club kit most club riders favoured rather than "collection" items that showed little sartorial elegance for the rider.
There were only really two high end brands: Assos and Descente who used to make some fabulously detailed kit. With the boom of cycling all over the world, the bike clothing market is now notoriously crowded, with startups appearing (and disappearring) on a regular basis, yet brands like Castelli, Etxeondo and Assos still offer innovation keeping new brands like Rapha on thir toes.
